Trails ATL - Atlanta Trails Plan
Atlanta, Georgia
The Trails ATL plan established a visionary framework for 535 miles of multi-use trails forming a connected, citywide network across Atlanta. The plan envisions a city united by safe, inviting, and equitable trails that foster healthy lifestyles, environmental resilience, and cultural connection. The proposed 420 miles of new trails—integrated along streets and through greenspaces—will provide active transportation and recreation access for more than 500,000 residents. Developed through multiple rounds of community engagement and feasibility analysis, the network will be implemented in three phases through the 2050s, achieving 10-minute trail access for 95% of Atlantans.
KAIZEN served as a prime consultant in partnership with the PATH Foundation and the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation. KAIZEN’s responsibilities included data collection, existing conditions assessment, GIS mapping and analysis, network evaluation, implementation strategies, cost estimating, and final documentation. The team also led the creation of public engagement materials—including online surveys, meeting exhibits, and feedback heat maps—used throughout all three rounds of community outreach.
The full report is available here, which includes a full analysis for each of the key factor that went into adopting the Trail Network.
